Here's how to apply for an LX micro grant or small project grant

Individuals and teams are invited to apply for amounts of up to $2,000, or up to $5,000, which must be spent in 2018. Grants for this year focus on improving the learner experience in ways consistent with learning.futures. Large collaborative classes, authentic assessment and feedback, and academic integrity are particular areas of priority. Ideas for learning activities that engage students in innovation or inquiry, simulate work practices or involve students with industry are strongly encouraged. Any digital materials development should focus on areas for which existing open resources are not available or locally relevant, and create resources that can be reused for several teaching sessions. Two levels of small grant are available:

  1. LX micro grants of up to $2000 are available for individuals and teams. These grants provide support to develop and test out one or more active, collaborative learning activities which will improve the learner experience. This may also include the development of digital materials to prepare students for in-class activities.
  1. LX small project grants of up to $5000 are available to individuals and teams to support redesign of the learner experience in subjects, with an emphasis on active and collaborative learning in line with learning.futures. Applications that focus on large classes are encouraged.

Please see the guidelines for full information (use your UTS google account to access them)

How to apply

In the spirit of active and collaborative learning, applying for these grants (and carrying them out) involves some active and collaborative activity. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Read the guidelines. They’re in a google doc which you can access with your UTS google account (not your private account).

2. Propose an idea, using this form. You’ll find the password in the guidelines. We’ll assess each proposal and invite shortlisted applicants to a pitching session.

3. If your application is shortlisted, pitch your project idea to a group. We’ll invite you to a pitching session.  You will then be informed about whether your project has been funded.

Final deadline for proposals is 10 am Friday August 17, but you don’t have to wait till then.  Earlier proposals will be considered and successful proposers invited to an earlier pitching session.

What can I apply for?

Have a look at the guidelines for examples. Remember, project funding must be spent this year, so bear the timeline in mind. Make sure you choose the right kind of grant for your project. If you have a small idea to test out, want to trial something a few large classes or create a resource for a difficult concept, go for a micro grant. If you’d like to do more, apply for a small grant but make sure you’ll have the time and resources to complete it.
